After the success of Circles In A Circle at the 2022 Bauhaus Festival, Theo composed Yellow, Red, Blue for The Bauhaus Band, premiering it at the 2023 festival

“Yellow-Red-Blue (Wassily Kandinsky) features a collison of all the primary colours, moving in an explosion across the canvas. Yellow, Red Blue (Theodore Sandberg) pays homage to this following the primary emotions we feel from immense pain to euphoric pleasure and all that lies in-between.”

Circles In A Circle

For Saxophone Quartet, Brass Quartet, String Quartet and Marimba

Inspired by Wassily Kandinsky’s painting known by the same name, Circles In A Circle was written following a series of rules created by Kandinsky, linked to his relationship with synesthesia (visualising sound as colour). In this case the rules are applied in reverse - from colour to sound - to create a new interpretation of Kandinsky’s original work. Both compositions were selected and recorded by the Bauhaus Band and conducted by esteemed composer, John Harle.

Whistlejacket
For String Quartet

Premiered at The National Gallery, London 2024

'Theodore Sandberg's 'The Whistle Jacket' string quartet - inspired by George Stubbs' "Whistlejacket" - is a tour de force of musical expression, mirroring the fast-paced and intense nature of the famed racehorse George Stubbs' painting depicts. From the opening bars, the music bursts forth with an emotional intensity, reflecting the spirited demeanour of Whistlejacket himself. The strings soar and dive with agility, at times mimicking the gallop of the horse as it races across the canvas.

Throughout the piece, the players demonstrate remarkable skill and precision, navigating intricate passages with finesse and flair. Just as Stubbs captured every muscle and sinew of the horse's anatomy, this quartet showcases a meticulous attention to detail, with each note and phrase contributing to the overall dynamic energy and emotion of the piece.'

Tone Poem For Snowdonia

For Chamber Orchestra

Commissioned by Welsh-born composer, Christopher Wood and recorded over two sessions, Tone Poem For Snowdonia tells the story of an ascent into the mountains of Snowdonia. Starting in the valleys below as the sun greets a new day, before climbing up towards the jagged and impressive peaks of Snowdonia.

“I have many great memories of my trips hiking in Snowdonia so it was a real pleasure to write this piece in an attempt to mirror the brilliance of this ancient landscape.”

By Your Hands, By Mine
For Piano Duo

By Your Hands, By Mine is a study for two pianos, focusing on the rhythmic interplay between the players as they weave and intertwine their parts with each other.

The piece begins with a single note, performed by one player with the second joining as the piece journeys towards resolution through rhythmic and melodic interplay.

As the piece resolves, it ends just as it begins, fading to a single note performed by one player.
